Letter 38: I Love the Desert!

June 9, 2014

First off, shout out to Justin for having his birthday this Friday the 13th! Hopefully there’ll be no black cats and smashed mirrors or spilled salt or any bad luck! And next Sunday’s Father’s Day, don’t forget that everybody! That’s a super important one too!

Second order of business. Desert scavenger hunt. This week we have the Choya Cactus. Commonly known as the Jumping Choya, these cactuses (or is it cacti?) used to be thought to sense people as they walk by and shoot their spines at them. This actually only happens when they dry out and randomly shoot the spikes. Something else fun is that they hurt like heck, and barb when they go into you, so you can’t pull them out. Yay! Everything in the desert kind of wants to kill you! But I love it!! 🙂

This week, we’ve been seeing many miracles in the work. This is an awesome place. We’ve found a bunch of people that are prepared to hear the gospel and we’ve begun teaching them! The Lord is definitely on our side. But, as with everything, you experience those super high highs, but they’re accompanied with a disappointment. There’s opposition in all things. But by working through those hard times, we prove to the Lord that we’re serious about doing what He wants us to do.

The desert is super rugged. I’m glad I have a mountain bike. My companion and I literally climbed up and over a mountain to take a shortcut. Dirt roads everywhere, large rocks, and everything is sharp. Definitely a whole different world. But thank you for all of your prayers and support. I love you all. Sorry this email’s so short. My companion’s waiting for a computer and I’ve gotta hurry up. But thanks everybody!!
